Zandvoort Dunes Loop - Leave Amsterdam Traffic Behind
Zandvoort, Netherlands
Zandvoort Dunes Loop
Distance: 9 miles
The Zandvoort Dunes Loop is a popular 9-mile route just outside Amsterdam that offers riders coastal scenery and the quiet of the dunes. The route is flat and fully paved.
Starting from Zandvoort , the route leads south through the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen nature reserve before swinging back along the North Sea coast. The landscape alternates between open sandy ridges, grassy plains, and small pockets of woodland. It’s not dramatic terrain, but it is varied enough to keep the ride interesting.
Expect a steady flow of local riders and day-trippers on weekends, but the dunes are large enough that it rarely feels crowded. Winds can be strong along the coast; a headwind on the return leg may add some effort. Bring a windbreaker if you’re riding outside the summer months.
Zandvoort has no shortage of cafés and restaurants, many located right on the beach. Two stops are Ubuntu Beach and Thalassa, both offering coffee, light meals, and seafood. In the town center, traditional Dutch cafés serve apple pie, sandwiches, and beer. Most riders plan their loop to finish in town and refuel there rather than mid-ride on this short route.
